Re: A few more questions about 3 of the tools

When you said you "opened Ad-AdwareSE and clicked on Run", were you trying to install Ad-Aware SE or was it already installed. If you are just trying to install it, you should just run Windows Explorer and locate the aawsepersonal.exe and double click on it to run the installation (the same applies to the other programs). I am not sure what you mean by you opened it and selected run. If the program is already installed and you selected the defaults, you just need to double click on the icon for Ad-Aware SE on your Desktop to run the program. Then you should first select Check for updates now and after that you should click Start which will run the scan.

If that is not your problem, continue reading.

Sometimes antivirus applications can cause problems with installers. I would recommend the following:
    - first for security, disconnect from the internet (exit browsers and unplug your cable that connects you)
    - shutdown your antivirus application
    - now try installing the applications

If that does not work, reconnect to the internet and download the applications again while your antivirus application is still disabled. Then try installing the applications.

Make sure you are clear on describing what your problems are. Downloading, installing, and running the application are three different steps that you need to perform. We need to know where the problem is occurring. It sounds to me like your problem is during installation.

One additional thing that could be tried.... empty your temporary internet file storage by running Internet Explorer and select Tools, Internet Options, then first select Delete Cookies and then select Delete Files and also check the option to Delete offline content too. Then click OK. Then try the installations.

Re: I'm now in the process of...

I've been on hiatus from the forum for a while, but I was wondering if anyone else could help me with the problems that I encountered with the tools in my C drive Spyware Tools folder.

Re: I'm now in the process of...

I'm just wondering if the problems that I'm having in my Spyware tools C:\ drive folder is because of an unknown virus. Also, at times I wonder if someone else has control of my computer without me even knowing it.

So, does that mean that no one has a clue concerning the problems that I am having in my C:\ drive Spyware tools folder?

The message is right there for your to read. I'll repeat it for you:

If you supply NO feedback and NO answers to questions, all we can assume is that you did not read and do what the message indicates.

Have you ever completed running the READ ME FIRST yet? If not, which steps have you run and which ones did you not run and why? Please explain clearly.

You have no post on 6-20-05, however, I'm finally going to try and follow the steps from your quote above.

When you said you "opened Ad-AdwareSE and clicked on Run", were you trying to install Ad-Aware SE or was it already installed.

I think I was trying to install it. I had already downloaded it from the interenet and placed the downloaded files in my C:\ drive Spyware tools folders, but from there, I guess I was trying to install the program

Well, it's interesting because recently, I downloaded and installed Ad-Aware SE to my computer apart from the C drive Spyware tool folder and I now have a usuable Ad-Aware SE program on my computer, however, I guess that one's not going to do me any good for the one that needs to be in my C drive Spyware tool folder. As far as what I meant by, "opened it and selected run," I meant running Windows Explorer and locating the aawsepersonal.exe and double clicking on it as you had mentioned, but you had also mentioned that the purpose of doing that was, "to run the installation." So, yes, I am now trying to install the programs that I downloaded and placed in my C drive Spyware tool folder.

If that is not your problem, continue reading.

Sometimes antivirus applications can cause problems with installers. I would recommend the following:
    - first for security, disconnect from the internet (exit browsers and unplug your cable that connects you)
    - shutdown your antivirus application
    - now try installing the applications

I'm not connected by cable, only a telephone dail-up modem, but I will disconnect from the interenet and shutdown my antivirus application.

If that does not work, reconnect to the internet and download the applications again while your antivirus application is still disabled. Then try installing the applications.

I will try that also if the previous step doesn't work.

Make sure you are clear on describing what your problems are. Downloading, installing, and running the application are three different steps that you need to perform. We need to know where the problem is occurring. It sounds to me like your problem is during installation.

I agree. That's what it sounds like to me also.

One additional thing that could be tried.... empty your temporary internet file storage by running Internet Explorer and select Tools, Internet Options, then first select Delete Cookies and then select Delete Files and also check the option to Delete offline content too. Then click OK. Then try the installations.

I will try that also, however, I often use AOL's Computer Check Up/Auto Fix program which automatically deletes cookies and the temporary internet files.

I will proceed from the whole approach that you mentioned on another day when I can start fresh with it. Thank you.

I'm not sure why you are having a problem seeing it. It is message # 51 and it was posted on 06-20-05, 17:38. It says so right at the top of the message. It is the same as what I quoted. Perhaps your messages have overrun to a new page. You do realize the message threads can have many pages to them.

This thread has been going on for quite awhile now. I wondering where you stand in completing all the steps in the READ ME FIRST and what malware problems if any remain on your PC.
