    GOGO Speculant!
I am stress testing a laptop, might as well fold.

How exactly does this make money for cancer?

It doesn't directly. We donate computer time to Stanford, negating the expense of paying for it elsewhere. See the MG Homepage and Folding@Home link in the SITE INFO section. There are several links there to get more info. The Stanford Folding Homepage is a good place to start with for finding more about what they are doing. http://folding.stanford.edu/

Setting up a dedicated computer just for this purpose on my LAN. It's a standby PC I have been keeping updated in the event my primary or secondary PC fails. Nothing fancy, but it will run 24/7 pretty much unless called into service for a replacement.

It's happily chugging away on my CPU, but the GPU hasn't downloaded any work unit as of yet. Could be since I am using RDC to access this PC?

Spad, I know this is a late reply, but welcome to the team! Your GPU should still download work units even if you are accessing the machine remotely. I have a workstation folding with a Nvidia GTX 1050 that I only access via remote desktop, and it is downloading work units without any issues. Do you have the latest drivers installed for your video card from the chip manufacturer's website? I would recommend downloading the drivers directly from the Nvidia or AMD website instead of going to the card manufacturer's website (EVGA, Asus, etc) as the drivers from the Nvidia or AMD website directly will always be the latest version.

    Thank you.

I have it off line for now . . . power supply gave up the ghost. Will have it back online soon. So far I have been unable to use the GPU for any work units. It's an HD6450, but it's a low profile with a 64bit memory bus. Not a really beefy card. I'll check the drivers and make sure they are updated.

Based off my research, it looks like the HD6450 is officially supported, however users have reported it is too slow to actually complete work units on time, so that may be the reason it isn't getting any work. I'm thinking the F@H people at Stanford may have placed the lower-performing video cards such as the HD6450 on a blacklist since they can't make any of the current project deadlines.

Im impressed this F@H is still going as used to do it, religiously until last PC died (not due to F@H mind) but never really got started again. Need to look up what they are researching still.

Anyone else having trouble getting work from F@H? I am idle 60% of the time.

Same here, even on my work laptop (which has a Quadro T2000). I think they're having problems pushing out the work.

    I have a dedicated F@H pc with a i5 4660 and two 4gb gtx 760's that runs 24/7
and as you say,, its hard to get them all folding at the one time
I have a draw full of older graphics cards that aren't on the list,, 2 x R290's both 4gb models that no longer qualify,,
I actually have a GTX690 that I'd love to give a workout but...

I use a GTX 660 FTW & a EVGA 560 ti both work but oh so slow between 11 and 15 hours to do one WU,I also have 3 cpu's working all Xeon w5580 quad core and a w3670 6 core and another runs at 3.1Ghz quad core all on my workstations using 1366 socket B motherboard making decent points for our team.
weather warms up doubt I'll fold until it gets cool or cold again

Thanks to User and long time friend noprob, I have answered the call to folding. Since earlier this year once the coronavirus incident accrued I figured what better time? I see a great opportunity to collect some more systems overtime and dedicate them to folding as this is a new form of computing for me I do enjoy along with many others. Pleased to meet all of you geeks.

PS. Don't melt your faces off crunching, it gets a bit warm eh?:D

A little update. So far I got two HP Z400 workstations. Both hexa-core Intel Xeons and Gigabyte Windforce GTX 660's in both. Sometimes, I let my gaming rig fold too which has the AMD R9 390 (great gaming card) until some bad COVID-19 moonshot projects were kicking AMD's butt. FAH dev John Chodera and I were working tirelessly to try to figure out what was going on with the sprint 2 compounds as they even rolled that back because AMD was holding an animosity against these projects for AMD folders. I do hope they figure it out, but I feel my best bet is to just fold with NVIDIA lol.

May our frame rates be high and temperatures low!

I got my hands on a GTX 980ti for a super good deal, so I'll have that running 24/7 for as long as I can. Looks like it's getting almost 1m PPD by itself! I also have a GTX 1050ti that I'm folding on 24/7, and I plan to add an additional GTX 1050 and a GTX 680 soon (just need additional desktops to put them in) and hopefully I can hit my goal of 2m PPD for at least the rest of the winter. I'm placing these computers around my house to keep it warm so I don't have to run my HVAC heater (which is electric so the cost is the same either way, and this way it's less stress on my HVAC system). I want to get Majorgeeks back into the top 100 where we used to be!

In case you are wondering who our new super folder (Khaosus) is, it's my son.
He has a friend with Covid and is hoping this helps.

I just recently fired back up again with my two 660's. I'm gonna be outta town a few days, say! I'm gonna fire up my R9 390 for you guys after writing this post.
Old man winter is rather slow and tornadic here in the state of sweet home Alabama. But, once it finally cools down I'll be folding like a maid.

Sincere prayers go out for Khaosus's friend.
