Are any of you more experienced network troubleshooters knowledgeable of a way to find an IP address on a network when DHCP is disabled on a switch. Even a gateway would do. I often have the ability to sit at PCs that are attached to the network, but all of the ways to get to that info are disabled - run commands, network connections, etc. The PCs are all XP, but they are set up just to run specific programs and I cannot break through to the desktop. I can also connect my laptop to these other PCs or to the network, but need a way to get a static address to make the connection.

Um no. Theres probably a reason your not given this info, and unless you can better justify why you need this, as apposed to say, trying to spoof an address to get an internet connection on a device not meant to be hooked to the network, your unlikely to get help here.

As a new member here, I just want to say how I appreciate your judgement of me, based of my question... Ummm - as you so eloquently put it - I am an IT and cabling tech for a major retailer. I very often have to prove cable connectivity by showing a pingable device on the network, usually my laptop. The network operations center will take up to 45 minutes, sometimes longer, to just answer the call to give me addressing. This is frustrating when there are training PCs within a foot of my elbow. If I coud get the static IP addressing from those PCs, it could save me from an ulcer. You would think they would just give me that info going in, but they are not that smart - I am on my own.
Ummm... Any other info you would like? My mother's maiden name, perhaps? Or the last four of my Social Security number?

    Really no call for sarcasm.
We get way too many requests like this from youngsters that are trying to circumvent their parents that it has become pretty much policy to question the reasons.

    And welcome to Major Geeks.
