    Hello,

The people in the Malware section of this site, were very helpful in assisting me with getting rid of a Trojan.inject.GO virus, a downloader and a couple others.

Unfortunately since exterminating this bug, I have a few programs that now lock up my PC upon launching them. This had not happened, even while infected, until I actually got rid of the viruses. I'm guessing registry issues?

    1) Yahoo SiteBuilder actually does not lock up, after it launches all seems well, until I open a page to edit, it then takes my CPU usage up between 97% and 100% and in my process list javaw.exe is at over 100,000k in the Mem Usage column. When I close the page after waiting a min or two, with the program still open, CPU usage drops back between 0% and 2% and the javaw.exe drops off the process list. Un-installed and re-installed - no change.

    2) Google Earth locks up the PC right after launch. Un-installed and re-installed - no change.

    3) QuickTime Player locks up the PC right after launch. Attempted un-install and it locks up the PC half way through.

    4) World of Warcraft locks up the PC right after launch. Performed repair and no change. Un-installed and re-installed - no change.

    5) Nvidia Control Panel locked up right after launch. Updated drivers and so far this is the only program that is now successfully fixed.

All other programs seem to have no issues, PC now runs as good as the day I got it, other than the above 4 programs.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    NetHazard

    Welcome to MG's NetHazard,
Have you run check disk and system file checker? Microsoft has tutorials on their use. The latter may require you have an XP installation disk (not an OEM Restore Disk), as I am assuming that is the Operating System you are using. I would suggest a repair install but personally have not had much success with them. A good backup of your operating system to an external source is a good idea in the future, or even just a backup of the registry or system state. Hope you get it worked out, That particular Trojan looks to be a real bugger.

    Hello,

Ran both and also a repair install, but to no avail. I really didn't wanna have to dump and re-load this PC, but I guess we're out of options. Heck the time I spent trying to fix it, I could have dumped and re-loaded 100 times by now. LOL

My drive is partitioned, can I just dump and re-load the operating system partition and the storage partition will stay intact? C: is operating system and E: is storage, all on the same drive.

Just the same, as a precaution, I have another drive I'll get out of the closet that has all my backups on it anyway and update it before I start the dump.
