A Few Questions Regarding Windows Backups/shadow Copy Service

I have a few questions itching at the back of my mind ever since an incident happened a few days ago where a disk image backup using Windows Backup & Restore failed due to multiple Shadow Copy Writers having been stuck in State [8] Awaiting Completion.

First, is there any known method or script to get DiskShadow onto other editions of Windows other than Server? If not, is there anyone who can create one? It would be immensely helpful, not just to myself, but to many power users who are dealing with managing backups and shadow copies on non-Server editions, and I don't get why Microsoft withholds this tool from everyone.

Second, where are records stored for image backups created using the Windows Backup & Restore tool, and are there any extra things I should know about how to manage these records? All records of previous disk images persist in the Restore Point tool even after I have wiped the backup drive they were stored on. I would like to clear these records, seeing as their corresponding image backups no longer exist.

Third, is there any UI within Windows for managing and deleting these image backups natively/"properly"? Can this UI delete failed imaging attempts, or do failed attempts have to be removed the tedious way?

Finally, if the answer to the third question is 'no', what would be the full and complete process for removing a botched image backup manually? Is it as simple as removing the backup from the drive, deleting its corresponding shadow copy, and removing its record from the System? Or are there more steps to take?
