A good alternative for Sygate

I have used Sygate's personal firewall and been much happy with it. However, the company was acquired by Symantec and all its personal firewall products were discontinued from November. I wonder where to find a good alternative.

I tried ZoneAlarm, but it could not be installed in my machine. An error message appeared each time, saying an essential root certificate was probably missing. And I would very much prefer to avoid Symantec / Norton at all costs.

So, can anyone please recommend a good personal firewall, especially from self experience? Many thanks in advance.

I've heard recently that Kerio has dropped support for
its freebie version. Corporate only now.

Maybe the ZoneAlarm installer was corrupted. Try another download.
Maybe shutting down your resident antivirus scanner and antispyware
shields during the install would work.
Make sure that the MS firewall is switched off.
Try an install while in Safe Mode.

Sunbelt recently purchased Kerio Personal Firewall and will continue to produce the Personal Firewall, both retail and free versions.

Filseclab and Netveda are free firewalls that seem to be getting good reviews on the internet. Any of you kids here at MG know anything about them?

I'm still using Sygate and it seems like it's still working rather well,is that a good ideal or should I switch over to Zone Alarm or OutPost.

I use Kerio on several comps I am currently takng care of and find it a very good firewall. I have used both ZoneAlarm and outpost, and find that Kerio fits me better than either.

I have used sygate and zonealarm. i find zone alarm slows down my system, it seems to use to many resources.

Is kerio as resource hungry as zonealarm?

Have you updated your root certs lately? You can get them from MS update, from the software section. Use the custom install option!
