I'm not a newbie:p , yet I am indeed confused in front of "DVDCutter Pro 5.0" and "DVD Clone 3.0"! Please tell me which one is more suitable or just give me some suggesion. The problem is I want to find a video related software suite which can not edit dvd, copy dvd, backup DVD-9 to DVD-5 without quality loss, but also convert DVD to other video formats such as avi, divX, xvid, mpeg...

Yes, this is a big project, because I'm fond of all-in-one software, I wouldn't like to install too many software on my computer. By the way, I've downloaded them from http://www.sharewarejunction.com yet I haven't installed them so far, I just plan to listen to your advices before doing that:)

You are after a generic piece of software and you want good results for several different specialized tasks. I personally don't know of any program that does it all very well, and if there is such a tool, I'm certain that it costs big bucks. :(

I can offer you advice on free software to do each of these tasks, but it doesn't meet your requirement of "all in one". :( They're several specialized programs. Let me know if you change your mind, and I'll be glad to help you out.

Here is the processes that have worked best for me:

    DVD Backup
When backing up a retail disc, it is necessary to remove the encryption on the disc. For this task, I've never had better results that I have had with DVD Decrypter. (DD)This program contains all kinds of functionality, but for this task, we will use only ISO read mode. To configure DD for ISO read mode, please do the following:

    1. Launch DD
    2. Click the 'Mode' menu
    3. From the 'ISO' sub menu, select 'Read'

Now, we can use DVD Decrypter to create a unencrypted mirror image of the disc on our hard drive. Select the source and destination, and press the Disc>HardDrive button.

DVD Image (ISO) Compression And Reauthoring
Now that you have the DVD in its entirety on file, it may be necessary to compress it for your single layer burner or disc. Or, you may just wish to reauthor the disc, so that there's no menus, or no spanish subtitles, etc. For these tasks I recommend DVD Shrink (DS). This has a very simple interface. There is a drop down menu to the top left that allows you to select what levels of compression to use. For a single layer DVD, select DVD-4.7, or if you wish, you can even compress enough to fit on VCD. You can also press the 'Reauthor' disc to remove specific components like alternate languages, or subtitles, or menus. The more space you save, the better the video quality can be. Once you are finished, press the backup button and DS will produce a compressed version of the image you created with DD. What's nice about this is that DS integrates with DD, and you can configure DS to launch the ISO Write function of DD automatically when the compression is done. This will generate a compressed image and automatically burn it to disc in a single step.

    Conversion from DivX
Sometimes, our applications (like Camstudio) output AVI or MPEG files that we would like to play in our home DVD players. Assuming we don't have one of those slick new DVD players that will process these formats, it becomes necessary in these times to convert formats! Programs like DivXtoDVD (DX) do a fantastic job of converting divx encoded video files into an ISO file containing a DVD's file structure. You can then burn this image to DVD using DD.

I hope these programs help you achieve what you are trying to do, but we're always here if you need further advice. Good luck!
