A list of problems

I'm really not sure what is wrong with my computer, but it has to be virus related. I'm not able to get Norton onto my computer, anytime I try downloading anything I get script errors, Firefox won't start up so I'm forced to use IE.
Also folders will close themselves after I open them, folders that contain my virus and malware software, when I start Bazooka, it closes itself.
When I type in 'regedit' into run it says windows cannot find it, same for msconfig.
I have an XP OS if that helps anything..
Any and all help will be appreciated.

Alright, I turned off System Restore, went in Safe Mode and ran Ad-Aware, Bazooka, CWshredder, and Kaspersky (it's the only antivirus software I can get to run) All those programs found plenty of problems which I had fixed or deleted, but when I started in normal mode I'm still having the same problems. Could someone at least tell me how to get my registry to open? When I type commands 'msconfig' or 'regedit' it says windows cannot find, try again.
Please help.

• Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:
