    hi everyone,

i'm having a hard time figuring out which graphic card to buy for my old Athlon XP 2600+

i was set on the GeForce 7600GT but have been told that it would be wasted money, since my CPU is not exactly the best one on the market... :(
at the moment i have a GeForce FX 5700LE, and i must say it did not really make that good an impression on me, plus its fan ceased to work while playing LEGO Star Wars, and that was a real nuisance for me.

so now i'm here asking for advice. i'd rather not buy used cards, as have been already suggested.

BTW: my power supply is 480W

and thanks in advance for your help!

It really depends on your budget. I have heard good things about the Nvidea 6600 cards. Or you can just build you a new computer. A 2600 AMD is certainly not state of the art, but should, with a decent video card handle most games. You might consider a RAM upgrade also. (not sure what you have).

If I were you, I would look into building a new computer. You could get a pretty good AMD system with a PCIe card for not a whole lot of money.

You can get 7600 GS, several at newegg are around $100 er less they even have an Open box one for $89
    It will be worth it.

Besides Whats a $100, I spent that much last night at Hooters eating shrimp

    thanks to both!

    to Fred_G:
i have 1GB of RAM, which is the max. my machine can take.
also, i have been reading about the 6600, especially the GT and the Ultra, but unfortunately i can only find them second-hand, which i would like to avoid (who can tell what the previous owner has put the GPU through!)

    to ASUS:
thanks, i'll give the 7600 GS a thought.
you know, a part of me is looking for a brand new, highly perofrming card, a part of me of course would just want to spend the money (i can spend more than $ 100, BTW) that is right for my CPU.
and if i have to settle for a card which costs less because that's what my CPU need, well, i can always go out and have some shrimp! ;)
