a problem to solve (for experts )

recently i purchased amd athlonx2 4800 + with asus motherboard and a new moniter samsung sync master 794MG


i have find some problem while installing linux mint

[ 0.468000].. MP-BIOS bug 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
[ 0.468000]kernel panic - not syncing : IO-APIC + timer doesn't work!
boot with apic =debug and send a report then try botting with 'noapic' option

when i turn on moniter, it does a tick sound then screen thunder for while then another smooth tick and then adjust properly.

last one my dvd combo does not read dvd but read cds

Mint is based on Ubuntu.
What version of Mint are you using?

 

i have tried all avail versions like fedora, ubuntu, mint all latest but it cant solve my problem till now. i think i have to make a change in bios

 

The issue is known since Ubuntu Dapper and so why I asked what Mintt version you have.

Google results for Bug 8254 shows many solutions.

 

ok ... because i have never seen that mint cd running successfully i cant tell u the version but i know its the latest one ( 2007 - 2008 ) and i have tried abuntu 7.10, ubuntu 8.04, fedora 7 and many more but the result was same.

but i will try the hint i found in your post

 

arpitt I have tried Mint and it is good. I think 4.0 is based on Ubuntu 8.04 and that was a Long Term Support version. Without the daily updates 8.04 was very stable. (I am using the not so stable 8.10 now)
