A question of Major Geeks net etiquette.

OK, I'm addicted to this place. I love the forums, and the people. It's well run and bug free. Which leads me to the following thought and question.

I've been thinking of setting up a website for electronics, nothing complex, just a place I can post my projects and schematics, with some old BASIC code on the side. But I don't want to set up a forum, which is almost a necessity.

If I link to the MG website, with full credits, how tacky is it to use the forums here for people wanting to discuss anything that might be at the original website? They would have to become member of Major Geeks, of course, but this is one of those areas I would prefer to ask first.

I am a major league procrastinator, so even if I had decided to start the web site tomorrow it would take months.

The proper etiquette would be to ask the admins for a forum dedicated to your site. That keeps MG and non-MG traffic seperate so you don't end up clogging MG's forums.

    HI Bill

I would run this by Tim and Jim, see what they think as your best bet ( email addys are their names @majorgeeks.com ). Option would be if they went for it to have a dedicated forum area to save questions being all over the place, kinda like what Wilders have for Acronis, ESET companies.

I know what you mean on procratination, I have been starting a website for 5yrs now, only thing I actually updating is my blog.

Thanks. I doubt many people would post, the net is a crowded place nowdays, and I hang out here almost every other waking moment.

I'll forward this thread to MA and CP to get their input (aka permission).

The real reason I want to set the website up is a drop point so I can allow schematics and programs to be shared. .BAS is an illegal extension for most of the public website locations, such as MS and Yahoo. Stupid really, but that's how it is. Dang script kiddies.

Thanks for the heads up on the new forum, I've been looking for something like that for years. I've found others, but I always felt my computer was in danger of being infected, with all the popups and whatnot. Plus there was a lot of audiophile dogma I questioned and got some pretty rude replies. I like knowing how things work, and generally not willing to take someones word that bad things will happen if you do such and such.

I've just joined an electronics usernet, the amount of spam there is amazing. Really high noise to signal ratio if you will. I may have just trashed my yahoo email account.

    Bill,
Majorgeeks welcomes links from anywhere. As you know, and can see, we often link to other sites and every file listing has an author link. What is illegal, which I know you would not do, is copying our guides or any copyrighted material. So, the more links the merrier, if you have a cool idea, maybe we can link to you from our links page and if its REALLY good, we often would be willing to give a front page link to a friend.

Thank you. Did I say months? Maybe years... :D

I doubt if it will ever be that good though.

What I was thinking of was something similar to this site, which I found very impressive. I've done a lot of work on various robot arena accessories over the years, it would be a shame if someone could use it and had to reinvent the wheel.

I found the other site recommended very impressive too.
