I recently got a little piece of Trojan.Virantix.C installed on my system. The thing wasn't really fully functioning but doing part of what it was designed to do. Really weird - but it would redirect me to sites other than what I clicked on in a google search - but only once every 10 or 15 times using google. it would also attempt to infect me by writing a file to my temp folder upon every boot - but only if i was connected to the internet. svchost.exe (a legitamit MS file) would launch using about 70% of the processor for about 2 or 3 seconds and then a little burst of traffic would occur before Norton would catch it in the temp folder and delete it. so it wasn't actually infecting me but it was annoying. the reason I say I "got a little peice of" it is because I recognized this form of attack and the type of webpage its launched from and killed the explorer.exe process before it could fully launch and infect me - BUT in my program files folder, it did manage to create a single folder and inside it, a single .dll file. (can't remember the name but it looked suspicious). Other than being detected and deleted upon every boot and the occasional redirect, it did nothing else it was described as doing to everyone else I heard from being infected. anyway by coming to your site and looking at a former post I was able to get the tools together to get rid of all of it, despite several other failed attempts. that's why I registered and got an account with this site - something I rarely do, but in this case it REALLY helped. I have removed all kinds of weird bugs but this one kind of had me stumped. no common registry entries were altered or made as usual when a real infection occurs because the attack was mostly unsucessfull - mostly but some little part of it was working to my annoyance and being detected and deleted several times a day by norton but not really being eradicated completely. It was like being "kind of" infected. never seen that before. Anyway, sorry so long winded but again, THANKS for this forum and to the individuals helping people here. Looking forward to this board.:wave
