I have an X2 processor. My mobo supports X2, but only with a better updated BIOS. So, I can't start up my new rig without the updated BIOS, and I can't update the BIOS without starting up the new rig?!?!? What do I do? I have access to another computer, but no substitute processor or anything. Is there a way of updating the BIOS without even being able to see my boot up? Because my monitor isn't getting any kind of signal from the computer, it just goes into standby as if the comp isn't on or something...

    Thanks

No. If your machine doesn't POST, you cannot update the BIOS. I'd think that the only difference between a board that supports X2 and one that doesn't would be that one core is shut off.

    Maybe not.

Only other option would be to remove the cmos itself, and contact the company for a new one with the updated BIOS, assuming they are willing to sell an updated one.

Thanks for the advice, and the link. Basically, sounds like I'm screwed... can't update BIOS without post and cant post without updated BIOS. So, now I just have to decide what stuff to send back to Newegg: The motherboard, or gfx card, or processor, or what? If I send the mobo back, I need a new one that will support my X2 straight out of the box, but what if that's not even the problem? I really hope it is. Even then, I'm looking at spending more money than I did on the original motherboard. Wow I'm never building a computer again. :( :( :(

Post advice on what to send back, take a look at my hardware specs, and give advice on the best way to fix my current problem, please! Thanks again.

You could very likely take it to a local computer shop & have them update the bios with one of their stock processors for a nominal fee. Give them a call, explain your problem & see what they say. It might cost an hour's labour or something, but it can save you a ton of headaches otherwise.

what bios revision is your mobo? (i.e. 1007, 1008, 1009, etc. it should say on the box or on a sticker on the mobo) according to asus' site, they have supported that x2 chip since version 1007, which is no longer available on asus' site.) http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx

My sticker says 1008 on it... very good point. I also STILL haven't managed to find out what my particular mobo speaker's "beeping pattern" means, I'll work on that too. Good idea about the local computer store, too! Things are looking up, thanks guys! :)
