You can usually gaurantee that if a thread is 'rated', a spammer has left a little love note in that thread. Like, WOW! look how wonderful my spam is.rolleyes

And wtf is up with all the Asian character spam lately?? There aren't even any links in them!

lol...I'll take your word for it NJ.

They've gotta make something or else there wouldn't be so many of them. They have do not call lists for telemarketers...they all had to go somewhere.

Like the Do not call list stopped any of them if anything we have gotten more calls.

    Really??

We don't get any. They completely stopped when I signed up. I did the National Do Not Call and PA has their own, so I did that one too. We get the stupid political campaign recordings and once in a while a charity, but that it.

Which reminds me, I think you have to redo it after so many years.

I agree with NJ. I have seen links in those Asian posts.
(I have even translated some of them and they seem to be cut and pastes from different ads)
Yes, too much time on my hands. LOL

We recently got Comcast Internet phone service.
The very next day, we started getting tons of telemarket calls. :boxing
Added the new number to the Do Not Call list and they slowed but didn't stop. :tas

Hmmm, could Comcast be selling their phone number lists?
Nah, it has to be coincidence, right? roflmao

    HI folks

Yes these Asian spam messages have been noted and are being dealt with as much as we can, however these are not posted by people but automated spam software ( which we know about ), but is not easy to block always as, as soon as a new blocking method is created for forums, the spammers have a workaround, just like malware.

The admin team here is thankful of its diligent members who alert us to this spam by the "report a post" button, this helps us greatly, so many thanks for keeping an eye out for us and keeping the forum clean of junk.

You all do an awesome job David. :)

The ratings were just something I noticed. Amazing how they always give themselves 5 stars!rolleyes:-D

On the control issue....Is there anyway to disable links for posters with, say, 5 or less posts? It doesn't seem that anyone with no posts should have to post a link.

Thanks Laura, that is nice of you to say so thanks :)

Yes noticed the ratings, seems to be a dead giveaway and makes spotting easier.

On the control issue, we could try that and disable them but we run the risk of alienating more legitimate members than that of spammers, just thinking that some members lurk for a while to gain some feel of the forum or are nervous of forums, so we wouldnt really wish to put them off by popping their potential good posts into moderation. So its a fine line of going too far and too little, do think at present we have it just right, but the suddern influx of Chinese spam is one to watch.

The current spam filter is working really well as the amount of spam you folks actually see is a very small amount of what we see thats filtered into moderation, so easy to bulk delete.

Yup, MG's has done a great job in curbing the spam. Used to be I'd report several a day at times but now it's just once in a while.:) Whatever y'all are doing, keep on going on as it's working very nicely! Thank you all!:dood

You had to get a new number to get their phone service? That is NOT what they advertise. Not that I'm shocked or amazed that they'd lie about something. Or that they'd sell their phone list. rolleyes

We haven't had telemarketer call one since I put us on the Do Not Call list a couple of years ago. Well...other than the fact that my mother used to donate money to every freaken charity in the world, so they all can call us legally looking for handouts. rolleyes

But back to the Asian spam...I haven't been around much to see it, but now I'm curious and will definitely be looking. LOL
