Well, I should know better but I downloaded a program and ran it. It didn't show up on Norton until after it was run and by then it was too late.

I have an IBM T43 Thinkpad and the option of booting from another partition on the laptop and restoring the laptop to it's factory pre-set condition but I like to think that I can conquer this thing . . . so help?

Symptom: In the bottom right hand corner is a Red Circle with a white exclamation point on it that pops up messages about how my laptop is vulnerable. Ironic how it's sitting right next to my Norton Protection Center icon . . . Also, when I open up an Internet Explorer window a second window pops up telling me that there are viruses. It's not from any company that I have subscribed to for protection so I have been just closing and ignoring it.

Completed all of the "Read and Run Me First" steps (I hope) and I'm including the log files. Thanks for your help. Usually just using the Read and Run Me first steps take care of any problems that I've found and I've recommended your site to tons of other people.

    Thanks again,
    Shane

And here are the other two log files.

Ok, I'm going down the list of "Alternative Scans" and ewido found a bunch of stuff too . . . In fact, the red circle with the White exclamation mark is gone now! But when I first open up an explorer window "WinAntiSpyware 2006" is there waiting for me.

    I've attached the ewido log.

    Thanks for the help,
    Shane

Ok, I did the steps in the "Virtumonde aka Trojan Vundo Removal" post and I think I got rid of most of the problems! If someone could check to make sure but I think It's Clean!

Maybe not though. Here's the Vundo log file and another Hijak this file.

    Thanks again!

You had a lot of bad stuff. Let's make sure it is all really fixed.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java 2, v1.4.2

Continue by downloading a tools we will need - Pocket KillBox

Extract it to its own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate it later.

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {872537A2-B17F-452B-84DC-CE3C83654026} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhi.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CFE9E8A8-38C0-4EF8-AEC2-5035EFE81030} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnkijh.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTDrive] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvbil.dll,startup
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ProtocolModuleCmd] svchon32.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ProtocolModuleCmd] svchon32.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [startkey] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winampXP.exe
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: opnkijh - opnkijh.dll (file missing)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: psfus - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\psqlpwd.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winmxw32 - winmxw32.dll (file missing)
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\Documents and Settings\Jeffrey Shane Forbes\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\41ARWH6Z\l11[1].exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Jeffrey Shane Forbes\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\HWVHFVQB\antzom[1].exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Online Security Guide.url
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Security Troubleshooting.url
    C:\Program Files\VirusBursters\VirusBursters.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvpub.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\esfgjcrr.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\pkxuliic.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvbil.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnkijh.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchon32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\winmxw32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\winampXP.exe
    c:\windows\system32\ot.ico
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\win10A.tmp.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\win110.tmp.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\toadwqevl.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\toqznyidz.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmkhi.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\winmxw32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ihkmp.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ihkmp.ini
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ihkmp.ini2
    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

After reboot locate the below folder and delete if found:
    C:\Program Files\VirusBursters

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Jeffrey Shane Forbes\Local Settings\Temp

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.
    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    Ok,
    1. Uninstalled the old IBM Java software.
    2. Deleted the lines from HJT.
    3. Ran the Pocket Pillbox Processes (Did not recieve that "Pending File Rename process. . . " line).
    4. Rebooted (from pocket pillbox).
    5. The Virus Bursters folder didn't exist.
    6. Deleted the stuff in the two folders.

I've also attached the logs for ya. I think it's about clean! I'll just have to re-install some IBM stuff (the fingerprint recognition software got lost somewhere in all of this.)

Thanks for taking the time. I really appreciate it.

That was my fault. I forgot to edit out one line from the things to fix while cutting and pasting from your HJT log. The below line should not have been fixed with HJT:

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: psfus - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\psqlpwd.dll

You should be able to restore it from HJT's backups. Just Open the Misc Tools section (from the main screen) and then click Backups. Find the above line in the backups and select only it. And then click Restore. Let me know if that works.

We have another file to delete and some other items from my previous steps did not get fixed. Something may be blocking the fixes. Uninstall Windows Defender and also if Ewido is a free trial version, uninstall it before doing the below:

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTDrive] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvbil.dll,startup
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ProtocolModuleCmd] svchon32.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bdqxpsom.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvbil.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchon32.exe

    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message! I only need to know if you get the message not if you don't get it).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.
    1. GetRunKey
    2. ShowNew
    3. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
