Well chuan, just to let you know I am pretty new at whole high performance computer stuff, so I will be interested on how other people reply to your question. But, this is as much as I know about that processor. The AMD 64 3000+ Winchester Core is a 1.8Ghz processor. These processors run a great deal cooler than the intel processors which makes them great for overclocking. Many people say that all in all the A64's run faster than the P4's. If you look around in the forums you may be able to find some processor benchmarks. If you are debating between an intel or AMD, I would recommend the AMD.

Amd 3000+ performs about as good as a Intel 3.0 if there is one, ain't sure about Intel but Amd compares its processors to others not by Ghz but by model so a 3200+ Amd performs the same as a 3.2 intel and so on untill you get to Amd's FX series but thats another story.

I like Amd better after working on some brand name computers with intel 2.4's in them my 2500 Amd seems noticably faster and I never have stability problems like some of them brand computers I mentioned.

Right now a 3000+ 939 pin has a great price but you should have dual channel pc3200 ram for a perfect match

is it true that A64 are not really that good at multi tasking?

btw, what does the mainboard bios top performance do to increase system performance.after installing the cpu,can i power on the com straight away without waiting for the thermal paste to dry up?thanks.

No that is false some claim Intel is better at multi tasking and AMD is better for gaming

I ain't sure how to answer this but from everthing I have read the NVIDA nForce chipsets lead to better system performance than Via, I use Via chipsets and they are fine.

Yes you can power on right away unless you are using some kind of adhesive paste them I don't know about. Artic silver or any type that comes with hs can be powerd on right away
