a7v8x xp2000+ only 12.5x141

This mother board is such a tease...I've seen people with these components posting 10x166. What the hell am I doing wrong?

I've been working at this for months. Tried everything...newest bios R1014, all the latest drivers, all voltatge combos. I haven't messed with the memory yet, mostly b/c I don't know what I'm doing. My temps get a bit hot, but not out of control...the highest I've seen is 42diode, 52socket (from MBM).

I'd like to get a new chip, but it seems like the stupid mb is the problem. Help!!!!

 

When running the FSB at 141 the PCI Bus and IDE Busses and everything that uses a bus is running at weird ass timings and clock speeds. That's why computers use fsb numbers of 100, 133, 166, 200 mhz. They are naturally stable and have good ratio and timings with the pci-bus. Normally the pci-bus is 33mhz and when you crank up the fsb it goes out of wack to crap like 43.6mhz and it's not very stable. If you have a pci-lock feature that keeps the pci-bus at one speed turn that on and also try a clock speed of like 166x11 for starters and see if it posts. Also good cooling is a must because computers get very tempermental at higher temperatures especially when they aren't at their factory set speeds.

 

Thx Ironsnipe. For that exact reason, I've tried to keep the bus max @ the highest stable speed or lower. This is why I'm confused as to why I can't get 166fsb out of this board while the bus speeds are much lower than what I run stably @ 141fsb.

This is where I get confused...is the multiplier an arbitrary number outside the default setting b/c @ 141x12.5 I'm running @ 1.76GHz, but @ 141x11 or even @ lower mult my clock speeds don't drop below ~1.72.

BTW...there is not a PCI/AGP lock on this board.
