2 days ago, my wife got her first virus called A9Installer that put an Icon on her desktop, since that I cannot scan with adware 2007 getting error 1814 & I just read a few minutes ago in your forum the suggestion regarding 1814 error which I will try to fix tonight by removing the file "settings.aaw"..
But regarding A9Installer I found very little on the internet and SpyBot-Search & Destroy did not find it nor Malwarebytes anti-Malware, nor Norton antivirus; do you have a suggestion ..I am not fully sure that A9Installer is really fully installed too..
    Can you help me.
I work in real estate and I am far from beeing a geek so please answer in simple terms..I just found that your forum seems to give more precise & details answers than most...

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

A9Installer is just another name for the rogue antivirus program named Antivirus 2009.

To make sure it is not actually installed and causing any problems, please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

Just be sure to attach all 4 requested logs when you finish. It will require two messages to post the 4 logs.

    Finally

It worked!!, my wife 's computer is running well, so does the one of my colleague in the office. Your guys are great, and I will always refer you other people.

2 more questions: How do I remove ComboFix and MGtools or any program that I cannot remove with Add/Remove ?
Choice of anti-malware software: so much choice: what is the best, most reliable, not to hard on the system, free or not spyware protection, what do you recommend, what do you think of CounterSpy ?
Same for anti-virus and firewalls. If possible please explain your choices..
Your site provides so much reliable and expert advice that I have seen nowhere before..
Again MANY thanks ( my wife says thanks too, and she understand better now what real geeks really are!)

I would recommend completing all of the steps in the READ ME and attaching all of the requested logs. Just because you're not having obvious problems doesn't mean your system is clean.

Okay! Since we work all threads oldest to newest it may be a little bit before we get to your new threads.

Please follow the instructions in Chaslang's initial post in this thread in all of your new threads on your other computers. Once you have completed all of the steps then attach all of the requested logs and we will get to you when we get the older threads caught up.:)
