Did you ever do anything about the loose mounting you were talking about?

When you put the zalman back on, did it fit flush and securely?

Yep I'm with Nick here sounds like it's gotta come of again anyway and assessing the mounting assemblage is MORE important than the thermal paste at the moment. Someone previously pointed out if air is getting in there it will cause significant heat increases.

With the sys power off is the HS and or CPU fan assembly slightly wobbly? Would like to see some pics, no HS but assembly. You have to be careful as to not to overtighten but tight enough.

heatsink is really not that bad... its just been really hot lately... ive been concerned since this chip used to be around 32-34C idle...

i retract my previous statement... i have it tightened fully... i have the case open... when i press down on the cooler the temp went all the way down to 51C... theres no way to tighten it more though!

Allright hate to b the OC wuss but ya gotta back things off to standard and take an environmental standard. Include your ambient temp (local daily weather report will do). If you keep going I dont have to spell it out to ya but something will fail! Post back.

My computer is still overheating and when i press down on the heatsink the temps drop quickly
from like 64C to like 50C

Hate to say it but if you have it tightened as much as possible it maybe time to replace the HS. Is it still under warranty?!? It seems obvious that it is not making a good contact and thus not working efficienlty maybe you could put your old one back on and see what happens. But imo time to go shopping for a new one.

its should be under warranty... the heatsink is a zalman umm something... ive had it for 8 months
i contacted them earlier and am awaiting a reply!

omg... i think i found out why... there are these little gold threaded things in the installation movie.... ill brb and tell you if it works...
edit: aw damnit i cant do it until i finish recording my betas to my hd

    i didnt mention oc hehe

I think this is the best option at the moment as when you apply pressure temps are going down. The gap is probably very small (1-2mm or part of!) but it seems apparent. Explain it clearly to them as you have on this thread I'm sure they will replace it just don't mention OC.

You just may have found "spacers" which will act as gap fillers on the bolts and definately allow a flusher fit.

well thanks for all your help... i will do all that tomorrow its getting late... i have to take the mobo out because of the little plate behind it... and then put the gold spacers in... i will tell you guys tomorrow and thx for all your guys

They are glued on you have to rip them off, first I'm just wondering if your using the right screws to tighten the heatsink down,is this your heatsink

    http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/view.asp?idx=141&code=005009

Im' wondering if the screws are too long and are fouling in the mobo mount or on your case behind the mobo,do you have a smaller set of screws in the zalman accesssory bag

    geekedittilitGHz <i>puto cum grano salis</i>

no there are not any more screws... how do u rip the plastic thing off? im scared of breaking my mobo....

oh. and thats almost my heatsink mine is the one with the 92mm fan and its aluminum and copper with the uv light.

From what I remember you have to heat it up with a hairdryer to soften the glue are you sure you need to do this,it will void your warranty?

    geekedittilitGHz <i>puto cum grano salis</i>

i wish i didnt have to do it... but i think i have to... i dont have any other screws and with the mount it came with its all wiggly... is this safe?

edit if i still have a warrranty...

I'v just checked the video on the zalman page, those brass spacer should screw into your current backplate without the need to remove it:confused:

nope they are different thread sizes.... damn ecs!

Cant see any articles anywhere on ECS backplates, thats the problem no one buys an ECS mobo to overclock, but if its like 90% of all other backplates, you just have to pry it off,if you cant, heat it up with a hairdryer, you just have to be really carefull

yeh its just glued on,I'm wondering if you can remove those two nuts from the current backplate, leave it where it is and screw the brass standoffs through it and into the zalman backplate,if the threads are long enough, but it is like doing half a job,do you have any nuts in the zalman kit that can replace those in the current backplate,if indeed they can be removed,if not looks like your gonna have to rip it off  :) ?
