When I launch IE or Mozilla they should both start with a "blank page" both now they both start with "http://aartemis.com/?type=sc&ts=1386599656&from=vit&uid=ST98823AS_5PK2630QXXXX5PK2630Q"

Even when I reset the home page to Blank it still starts with the AArtemis Portal Page

Attached are the logs from the scans. This problem just started today and I took the scans today just before posting this.

Now please download Junkware Removal Toolto your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
    • Attach the logfile to your next next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Uninstall the below programs. If you do not find them or they will not uninstall, just keep going.
    Java(TM) 6 Update 26
Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment Make sure that when you see the form asking about installing Ask Toolbar that you uncheck this.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\WINDOWS\temp\*.*
    C:\Documents and Settings\Rebekah Hicks\Local Settings\TEMP\*.*

    :Reg
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670}]

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]

    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the AdWCleaner loglog
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I ran the additional steps you posted ... have attached the logs.

I deleted Java(TM) 6 Update 26 as you requested but was unable to install the Sun Java Runtime Environment that you posted a link to. That seems to be a 64 bit version and my computer tells me that it is not a valid win32 app and will not install it.

When I launch IE or Mozilla I still get the Aartimis Portal instead of what I should get.

    Awaiting further instructions...

Goto the below link and download/install the Windows X86 version

    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html

Okay I see some items in your logs for it still. Some of it may be manually removable but let's check another scan.

    Please download OTL by OldTimer.
    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Double-click on the OTL icon on your desktopto run it. (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8 use right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • Check the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
    • Check the "Standard Output".
    • Change the setting of "Drivers" and "Services" to "All"
    • Copy the text in the code box below and paste it into the http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/66/otlcustomfix.png text-field.
      Code:
      activex
      netsvcs
      drives

    • Now click the http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/2405/runscanotl.png button.
    • One report will be created:
      • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Attach OTL.txt to your next message. (How to attach)

We are probably going to have to reset Firefox back to defaults or you will have to manual correct the newtab setting in Firefox because it is set to
Other setting show in OTL and we can fix them with the below.

Now shut down your protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) to avoid possible conflicts.
    Code:
    :OTL
    DRV - File not found [Kernel | On_Demand | Stopped] -- C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\KernExplorer.sys -- (Lavasoft Kernexplorer)
    DRV - [2010/08/12 07:15:20 | 000,064,288 | ---- | M] (Lavasoft AB) [File_System | Boot | Running] -- C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Lbd.sys -- (Lbd)
    IE - HKU\S-1-5-21-192112653-3620378594-2804019913-1005\..\SearchScopes,DefaultScope = {96D9B3F9-DE09-4AD5-B1D0-494017BB6DA9}
    FF - prefs.js..browser.search.defaultenginename: "aartemis"
    FF - prefs.js..browser.search.selectedEngine: "aartemis"
    :Commands
    [PURITY]
    [EMPTYTEMP]
    [EMPTYFLASH]
    [REBOOT]
    • Now click the http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/407/otlrunfix.png button.
    • If the fix needed a reboot please do it.
    • Click the OK button (upon reboot).
    • When OTL is finished, Notepad will open. Close Notepad.
    • A log file will be located at C:\_OTL\MovedFiles\mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log, where mmddyyyy_hhmmss is the date of the tool run.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: How to attach)
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the log from OTL
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Aartimis is still there. Also, Firefix keeps "crashing" and has to be restarted.

I have also had Norton (Symantic) crashe ... it will restart itself. I have had IE crash, too, and it "recovered the tab" and was able to continue.

This "crashing" is something new since the last post and this one.

    Attached are the logs requested.

Please run the below and see if it helps:

    Reset Firefox to Defaults

The crashes are issues for the Software Forum.

I deleted and re-installed Firefox and it is now working properly and has a blank homepage.

Using the log from one of the scans, I deleted the .lnk programs links and now have a blank homepage in IE also.

Do I need to run any additional scans for you to check to see if there are any other problems left?

Thanks for all the help so far.

Yes, that was going to be in my next instructions if you still had problems. It is getting more and more common for junkware to change lnk files and it goes totally undetected.

Not if you are no longer having problems.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
