Aawtray

Keeps popping up in my startup. I run msconfig, uncheck and restart. Then there is 2, one checked the other unchecked. I uncheck the remaining checked AAWTRAY and restart. Now it's always one checked and one unchecked and showing up in the system tray with an unusuable right click option to "abort scheduled scan". Only thing is, THERE IS NO SCAN IN PROGRESS!! I can't even right click and shutdown/close. What's going on here? Thanks.

 

I'm sure you're aware that the "aawtray.exe" is an AdAware2007 file, and many people are having trouble with it, you're not alone. I don't really have a fix for you, but here's a link to a forum where some folks are discussing problems with the same file. Maybe it'll help...

What, in your all's opinions, would be a good replacement?

 

I disabled AAWTRAY with WinPatrol - that worked.

 

Even though it's been uninstalled via Add/Remove, it's still showing up in the Startup config. I ran CCleaner as well with no luck. Any help to remove it completely or is this something I need to take to the Malware forum?
