Now that I am hereby certified...I figured it is time to take this little side job of working on peoples computers as a hobby, and turn it into something with set prices etc., etc., I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this!!

Anyway...I am going to make some business card on my comp in this little handy dandy program I have, but the graphics that come with it and what I could find by googling, were all cheesy as hell!! So I was just curious if maybe you had something in your archives that was cute (for the lack of better terms) but yet proffesional looking!?!? Either a little something for in the corner, or maybe something that is semi translucent that I could put in the middle and then put the text directly over the image!?!?

I don't want you to spend your prescious time designing for me (I'm sure you have more important things to do!!) but was just curious if you knew of something off the top of your head!?!?!

    Thanks
    Roger

Well gee...I just may have what you are looking for.:) What image format would you prefer? Standard size business card?

I won't be able to go through my files til later today...have a web site I'm trying to finish the coding up on and one of the scripts is giving me fits....I'm not bald yet so I have a ways to go..;):D

Cool...Thanks...just whenever you get to it!!

It will be just our standard size business card (3.5"x2"), so maybe if it is a little something for the corner, I was thinking approx. 1"x1" or if it is a bit wider or taller on one side, that would be fine!! If you are thinking something like the translucent idea with text over it...then maybe 2" long x 1-1.5" tall, or somewhere in that neighborhood.

Awesome...can't wait to see what you come up with!!

BTW...I guess just a standard jpeg format will do...that is usually what I use when I do anything with pics and/or graphics.

I make personal introduction cards for myself using the inkjet and Walmart card stock. Front is my name, address, email, pager with a masonic logo, the back is my bulleten board (one of the few still left in this town).

That is kind of my plan. I have a program called Print Artist 12 and it has all kinds of features for making banners, cards, business cards, fliers, etc., etc. It is a pretty cheesy program to graphics designers standards, but at the same time it is pretty powerful for the intermediate graphics program user!!

Besides that I've always like putting stuff like this together, so I will design it on this program...print it out in business card format, then take it to my local Kinkos and have them run it onto cardstock and cut them for me, for a small one time nominal fee!!:)

Alot of the design programs for Business Cards tend to in their defaut layouts go over the top in adding too much design and fluff, subsiquently they look tacky!! Some companies may need layouts in various designs some with more background colours some not, the IT field type designs that look good are simple and plain with a logo or slogan either prominent or as you already suggested Roger translucent, I favour the Translucent look as well as maybe a bold logo, with no more than 3 fonts used, generally only use one fancy one and two plain Helvetica, Aerial, Lucida type styles and the card in plain white or a rough white card, just gives that classy look IMO.

One idea I have used over the years is to incorporate if its your own buisness is your intials ( either your first or all ) in the design using various translucent colours and large fonts, you dont need to see the full fonts/letters just the hint of what they are.

Yes, I have to say that I agree with your entire post!!

I have seen several homemade business cards, pamphlets, etc., that are just way over the top and just a plain eyesore!! What you said in your first couple of sentences, is what they beat into us in my commercial art classes!!

Thanks for the suggestions...you've pretty much hit home with what I was thinking of, Halo!! I will keep in mind, your suggestions for fonts!! That is my weakest point, trying to remember the names of different fonts, and I'm usually too lazy to sit there and scroll through the fonts list every time I want to be creative!!

I had same in Graphic Design classes in art school... they say simple is best, I have to agree.

the fonts were just a few that popped in my head at the time but their are many fonts that will fit the purpose, I know me and Abby have massive collections so can help you with font choice, once we see the design.
