I connected a USB device to my laptop yesterday (02-21-11) that was infected with Backdoor.Graybird and something. My Norton antivirus (Norton Internet Security 2011) caught it and apparently removed it but, since then, I've seen my AV scanning, which I know now thanks to this site, malware. It doesn't remove it, moreover it doesn't identify this files as threats. My computer is, in my opinion, not running slow or anything but, I know that if I ignore these, speed will be the least of my problems. These are some of the files:

    -Trojan.Zlob
    -Trojan.Brojack
    -Infostealer.Aobys
    -Backdoor.Sdbot.AR!dr
    -VBS.Runauto
    -Backdoor.Tidserv
    -Backdoor.Rustock.A
    -Hacktool.Unreal.A
    -Trojan.Clampi
    -Backdoor.Rustock.B
    -Infostealer.Snifula.B
    -Trojan.Peacomm
    -Trojan.Gpcoder.E
    -Adware.180Search
    -Adware.Hotbar
    -Spyware.2020Search
    -Spyware.Cyberspy
    -SecurityRisk.NavHelper

    Others...

I don't know much about technical procedures. I only want to resolve this isuue as soon as possible. Thank you.

Important Notice: A new version of SUPERAntiSpyware is available.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this log later.

Well. I have just reviewed your logs and I am not seeing a single problem believe it or not. You say those are the files your antivirus detects but they are not. Those are just the names it has given the threats. I need to see a log, or have you give me the exact file names and file paths of these "threats"

I have attached two logs: one without changing Preferences (log1; displays cookies) and the other one, following the procedure listed for SuperAntiSpyware (log2). They're both okay, but I'm still concerned. Again, when I start the full system scan with Norton Internet Security, it starts to check common infected areas, etc. Shortly after, the description says: "Checking for: W32.SillyDC, W32.Ircbrute... It doesn't give an adress as where they're supposed to be found. Aren't these some kind of worm? Is my computer infected? (Sorry, I don't know much about this.) Why are they appearing now? I've never seen these in other scans.

    I'll wait for your reply.

    Exactly, just checking.

Because it is not actually finding an infection.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I only have two more questions:

    1. When I take a look at my disk drive, I see the MGtools.exe application. I've already unistall everything. Is it safe to delete it from there? It doesn't appear in the Control Panel under Programs.

    And...

    2. What can I do about the logs; should I save them?

Complete the final instructions that Kestrel13! gave you and MGtools (step 8 removes it) and most logs should be gone. Anything remaining afterwards, you can delete.
