well i have run into a problem with scanning and cleaning steps: 1 a/b
on the " READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal" post. first of all i dont have a softwear antivirus program (yet) so i usually use trend micro. anyways i cannot run trend's scan in normal opperating mode. i just get errors, a AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 6.1.9844.0 Offset: 00001d90 error to be exact. after that IE restarts and im back to about blank. the virus couldent be doing that could it? then on further i cant access any explorer window. period. it also creates arrors and restarts explorer. in safe mode i was actually able to get trend micro to work and it found 22 some odd junk files (dlls i think) that i keep finding in my prossesses list. to put it this way, i have been going back and fourth between apm, the cleaner, and about blaster to remove these junk prosseses and they just come back with with what seems to be randomly generated names. back on point, i could not get symantec's online scan to work at all in safe mode. the applet (dont know what else to call it) just hangs there for along time till it come up not avalable.
im planning to put an old version of norton AV and getting all the updates the doing a full scan to see what happens. would agv AV work also? on the same note, cwshredder has come back with nothing everytime ive used it

doesn anyone have anymore info or advice for my situation.
im not gonna post any log files just yet, i want to figure out why i have lost control of my computer because it doesnt sound like a symptom of an cws attack.

Just continue completing all the steps in the READ ME FIRST as best as possible. Note any problems along the way but don't bother coming back until all steps are finished. I'll include the READ ME in the steps below. Finish everything and post your HijackThis log at the end.

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

ok i followed all that and my system seems to be clean. only thing i have to note is that spybot brought back a alexa infection which no other scan found
after that was cleaned everything else appeared to go away.

apon rebooting in normal mode i have run about buster and it came up with no infections and hijackthis is not showing anything eather.

im now running on firefox. aside from that is there any other steps to help prevent future infections?

    thanks for the help
