    Hi,

I've recently noticed that when I close my Internet Explorer window I get "about:blank" flash up in the address field for a split second and then the window closes normally. I'm sure this never used to happen. Everything else on my PC seems fine so after reading through many forums decided to run the tests described here.

I have gone through and run all the procedures in "Read & Run Me First" thread and finished with a HijackThis log. Bit Defender found 1 virus & Panda Active Scan found 3 instances of Spyware.
I have secondly run through the About:Blank and HSA Hijacker - Simplified Removal procedures and attach a second HijackThis log.

    Hope you can help
    Many Thanks

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

What you are describing is not an about:blank hijacker! Actually it is not even close to being a hijacker. You really do not have any malware issues based on what you posted but some of your logs are incomplete (GetRunKey and ShowNew) because directions were not followed for running them properly. Your flash of about:blank is more than likely due to some of the software you are running (possibly McAfee or maybe something else you have recently installed or updated).

Note you do have some things you need to correct:
    - You need to get the current Sun Java version which is 5.0 Update 9 and then you need to uninstall the 4 old versions you have.
    - You did not install Spybot as requested in the READ ME. You are running a version that is more than two years out of date.

    Hi Chaslang,

Many many thanks for your reply. The issue is being caused by McAfee's Privacy Service as when it is disabled I do not get the blank screen.

I will take your advice and upgrade Spybot (assumed I had the latest version already for some reason) and uninstall the old versions of Sun.

I had issues running the 2 .bat files as I get 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem error messages saying "C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.NT. The system is not suitable for running MS-DOS & Microsoft Windows Applications" When I clicked "Ignore" it created what I sent you. Do you know why the error is happening ?

    Appreciate your time.

    Regards
    Pete

Ok - it would help if I read the Section properly. Please ignore my last question above.

    Thanks again
