    Hello.
I have been visiting this site for months and getting lots of help from many of you MajorGeeks during the time. A lot of you have recommended some outstanding utilities and software which have been of tremendous help to me. Sometimes I have even got help on issues I did not realize I needed help with until I read posts from users who were having similar problems. For all of this, I Thank You very much.

There is just one thing though that I must admit I am totally confused by, and that is the procedure for HJT logs and determining if there is a malware issue. I really have tried to follow this procedure, but for whatever reason, I cannot seem to grasp what is required.

The problem I am having is that on occasion, when I attempt to close a window in IE, the window does not immediately close, and in the bottom toolbar I get the message, Opening page about:blank. Some here have suggested this is caused by the about:blank malware issue, and I agree that could be the case, but I do not fully understand how to determine if I have it or do not have it. I have the program "AboutBuster" installed and I ran it, but again, I am not sure if I did it right. For whatever reason, I am completely baffled by this minor problem and how to determine if I have it or not.

Thank you guys for any help you could provide me with this matter.

This does not sound anything like an about:blank hijacker. Right now it does not even sound like malware. For use to be able to determine whether you are having malware problems or not, you will have to follow the steps below.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
    • Bitdefender
    • Panda Scan
    • HijackThis
