In past postings, AboutBuster was suggested for removal of the About:Blank home page. Is this still the program of choice? I am unable to reset my home page. All scans - Norton, Ad-Aware, Spybot - are showing no threats. Thank you.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Now a days it is a very rare occurrence to see an HSA hijacker problem. (HSA = Home Search Assistent and is commonly associated with About:Blank hijackers). Just because you can not set your home page is not an indication of a hijacker. Is your only problem that you cannot change your home page, or are you constantly being redirected to other websites? Are you sure you have not locked your start page using any protection software?

If you want us to help you figure out exactly what problems you may be having, the below would be the best procedure to follow.

I was being directed to other websites, but I did take care of that problem. The last remnant of the problem is the about:blank homepage. I'll run the link you suggested and let you know what it says. Thank you.

If your just need to change your Home Page and you are not being hijacked by anything, the below show be all you need to do (obviously you can choose whatever you want your Home Page to be):

    Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Note for IE 7 users: You need to select Internet Options then the Advanced tab and then Reset Internet Explorer Settings!

I have tried to reset my home page using the steps you outlined to no avail. I've even tried resetting to factory default settings. After I hit apply and ok and close out of the screen, the homepage is reset to about:blank.

Are you using anyking of antispyware or antivirus programs? Which ones? They can block you from making this change. It is a protection feature that you may have enabled. Even some firewalls can protect this settting.

Norton 360, Ad Aware, and Spybot. I'll double check Norton's settings when I get home. Thanks for the suggestion.

Unless Ad-Aware is a paid version that has the protection feature (Ad-watch) then Norton 360 is more than likely stopping you from making the change.

I'm not using a paid version of Ad-Aware. And help please, how do I check for the setting in Norton 360 that's preventing changes to my home page?

Since I do not use any Norton/Symantec products, I cannot help you with that. All I can suggest is to double click on the icon in the tray or right click on the icon in the tray and check out the options. Other than that, I would recommend posting a question in the Software Forum where you may find another Norton 360 user who could help you with this. Note, we still don't know for sure that you do not have any malware problems, but it would really be best to check out how you have Norton setup first before pursuing the instructions in my first message to you,

Chaslang, Thank you. I did re-run all scans and Ad-Aware detected Win32.Trojandownloader.Zlob, which I removed. Then I went into Norton 360 and allowed connections from iexplorer under Firewall Program Rules. After 1.5 days, so far so good. My home page is not returning to about:blank each time I hit the home page button. I'm going to continue to run all scans each day to make sure nothing else is on the computer. I appreciate your help. Thanks again.
