    Hi,

When I was trying to rid myself of the trogan last week 2 files were deleted. RAVirus deleted one and I deleted the other.

    One was ~c:\windows\system32\wiwshost.exe
    The other was something similar.

Chaslang ~ you told me this could cause AVG not to work. I thought that it was working but i'm not so sure.

I went to windows-system32 and didn't see this file. I did have show hidden files selected.

I installed zone alam today and it states that there is no virus protection detected. Is this just a glitch between the 2 programs?

How can I replace this file?

    Thanks!!

I also have ZoneAlarm and ZoneAlarm I believe only detects the zonealarm antivirus program. Which you can get it from ZoneAlarm with Antivirus(firewall+av).

    So there is no glitch.

Actually ZoneAlarm detects many virus programs. I have ZA Pro with NAV05 and it detects it. Make sure you have the latest builds and updates.

I do have the latest AVG ~ just installed a new one last week.

Does anyone know if I can replace my lost file?

I would uninstall AVG and then reinstall it. This should take care of your problem. Also in ZA make sure it says "Firewall is up-to-date". Also under Overview select the Preferences Tab and click on "Check for Update".

I unistalled AVG and ZA. I don't know what I did but I was having trouble viewing pages because of setting in ZA.

I just updated windows yesterday and now I have a windows firewall. When did windows come out with a firewall? I assume I shouldn't have 2 running.

I'm not sure what to do now.....

The Windows Firewall (I assume you mean for Win XP SP2) does not provide sufficient protection. You need something better (like Sygate or ZoneAlarm). Why did you uninstall AVG? You need an antivirus program. Ignore the silly reports about not antivirus protection detected. As long as you know you have an AV installed and you can run it, that is all you need to worry about.

    You also asked
You did not need those files. They were part of the malware issues you were having. The can cause your AV not to work because they may disable the services. See: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.tooso.html

I thought I deleted a file that the trojan had attached to ~ not one that the trojan had created.

    Going back to install everything.

    Thanks Chaslang!!
