I created a database in Access 97 to keep track of all my instrument calibration data. I enter data into fields on a form. Every year I have to update the data on one instrument in the form and save the history from the previous calibration. I thought I could do this easily by simply copying on the field data and paste appending it to a blank form, and then archiving the old data, but it doesn't seem to work. I will right click the bar on the left of the form, click copy, and then right click the same bar on a blank form and hit paste but nothing pastes.....Why? Also, is this the best way to keep my history? Can you help me with examples or websites to go to. I am a visual learner.

I often use spreadsheets like Excel to keep track of things like that. In there, you just select a row or column and copy it. (Actually I often use paper or Notepad first, and if it gets too complicated, I switch to html or Excel or make a custom database program. I don't use Access much.) You may need to copy each field seperately, or if you can get the view to a list, maybe you can select an item and duplicate it. I don't remember exactly how to do that. I think I have Access 97, though not sure. If I find something, I'll post again.

I thought it was 97, but it's actually version 7. I didn't know it had been that long. :) Anyway, in that version, I chose datasheet from the view menu, and then I could copy and paste rows of data by clicking on the gray area on the left of each record row.
