Access Denied On Some Websites

It happens for Lowe's and CVS websites when I try to do a product search (see attached screen shot as an example). Home Depot says, "Oops! Something went Wrong". I tried the computer at the library and the same thing happens.

    https://www.cvs.com/

    https://www.lowes.com/

    works for me.

Try this clear your web history.

Than go to start type CMD for command prompt.

While in command prompt type ipconfig /flushdns

    Than restart.

See if that fix's the issue.

I occasionally get messages like this when I'm working from behind a VPN. A quick disconnect and I'm off and running.

If you are running an ad blocker like uBlock Origin, whitelist those sites.

I can get to the original site (Win 7 FF ESR uBlockOrigin turned off on the site and no VPN).
But when I type something in the search box, I too get access denied.

Seems like for some reason, search is not working.

Next I fired up an old version of Brave. I refuse to install chrome on a Windows computer so this is my work around. I did nothing to uBlockOrigin which showed it was blocking items.
Search worked fine on both sites.

My advice: try a different browser.

i run like ublock / ad guard and adblock plus did not have any issues in Firefox nightly.

every thing loaded up fine for me.

Here is a link if you want to try it.https://www.firefox.com/en-US/channel/desktop/

They all so have nightly for android as well and can use the same adblockers.

I all so have google don't track me as well and a bunch of other stuff for you tube.

Oh and FYI nightly is updated all most every other day.

DNS flush didn't help. Since the library computer does the same thing, perhaps it's a ISP issue since they use the same one as I do. Another search suggested I may need a new IP address since these sites my be flagging my address as malicious. I don't know why they would.

It may also help to know I have a really old desktop running Windows 7. My browser ids Firefox 115.35.2 esr (64-bit). I only have Firefox and Internet Explorer installed. I hesitate to use IE, though.

Firefox ESR is up to 140.10.2. Ah, I see, you're restricted to the 115 branch because of Win 7. It requires at least Win 10 to update to the 140 branch.

From a security point of view..... ouch.

    Command prompt cmd.

I would reset modem and the wifi router at the same time

Then do this command and restart.

    This will release the IP
    ipconfig /release

    This will renew the IP
    ipconfig /renew

I would all so reset the modem and router as well for a new IP and see if that works.

Most modems newer will take about 5 mins to reboot.

When you type "ipconfig /renew" into the command line, that command orders your DHCP client to renegotiate an IP address lease with the DHCP server on your router. On a Windows computer.

Note I'm running Windows 7 with FF ESR patched to v 115.32.2.
Firefox ESR will not work on those sites. Also FF nightly can't be installed on Win 7 computers.
In short, you can't get it to work running Win 7 and the latest FF ESR for Win 7.

What browser is in use at the library? What OS?

it can just have to find a older version.
List of older builds that can be downloaded goes back to 2004.
    https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/

I would have to test it in a VM but i think the 8.0 versions do work in windows 7

And i am sure they would auto update to the latest version which is 152.a1

Personally tested: Brave, the last version to support Win 7 works and Basilisk, a fork of Firefox up to date does not work.

This is the last version of Brave to work on Win 7 https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases/tag/v1.46.144
but I'm having a hard time finding a download from a site I trust. From Github, I believe the latest version would download and this won't install on Win 7.

Their OS is Windows 10 and they have Firefox and Chrome installed. I am also getting access denied on Ace Hardware. I can open the main website okay on the problem sites, it's when I do a product search that I get the error. Since the library is having the same issue, might it be our ISP that is the problem?

@ debodun Did you try chrome at the library?

I can confirm that search works in the Brace browser on the Ace Hardware site. If you have a smart phone, fire up chrome and try searching on the three sites that don't work on your computer.

@DangitalRedux, thanks but I have no need to download it. I have Brave installed on my Win 7 laptop and desktop and I don't want to mess up what is working. (Malwarebytes, Account Subscription details for my never expired Pro Versions only work on Brave, not FF so that's why I installed it.)

I will try Chrome at the library when I am there again. I don't have a cell phone.

Thanks to all who suggested help methods.

I tried the library computer today and it did a Lowe's and Home Depot product search fine.

It now appears you have 3 choices:
    1. Go to the library and use chrome when you need to search for something.
    2. Install a chromium based browser on your Windows 7 computer. This may be hard to do since Win 7 patching stopped years ago and most of the links to install something no longer work.
    3. Buy a cheap android tablet and use chrome on it at home to search for something on sites that refuse to work in FF ESR.

If you get an Amazon Fire tablet, you have to do some maneuvering to get Chrome installed. It comes with the Silk browser. I'll check my Kindle and see if search works on those 3 sites using the Silk browser. (I did manage to install google play on my Kindle because I wanted to run a local tv station's weather app and I had to install it from google play.)

I fired up my Kindle Fire HD 10 and tried the Silk browser. It worked fine on Lowe's and CVS. On the Home Depot site, I seemed to have problems. I got an error message starting with Ooops. I didn't write it down. I was able to look at the weekly ad. For some bizarre reason when I searched for garden hoses, I ended up back at Lowe's! I think Home Depot wants you to choose a store, which I did but then it also wants you to create an account, which I'm not willing to do, to be able to do a proper search.

I went back on the Windows 7 computer and Brave and got the Home Depot site to work without creating an account. I suspect it would work in Chrome at the library but I can't guarantee it will work in the Silk browser.

Well, I AM puzzled. Why a search on some business sites suddenly won't function. Business like Dollar General and Family Dollar work fine (so far). A consensus of opinions about my issue is 1) I have an old browser which is a high security rick and sites using a certain security checker won't allow it, and 2) My internet address has been targeted as malicious for some resson.

I'm an older person and not very tech savvy. I've been think of getting a new desktop, but not sure I could set it up. When I moved, the ISP technician set it up. It's a real spaghetti junction of cables behind there:

That Computer needs a cleaning badly. If you have the money buy a Can of compressed Air and Dust it off.Looks like it's starving for AIR.You have to open the case up make sure it's unplugged and off.

You can order them here https://www.amazon.com/canned-air/s?k=canned+air there are all so ones that are electric.

That cable is normal as far as i can tell.

It might be a good idea to call spectrum it's possible they might need to replace router i had to do that recently.Have them run test on it.

Speed has nothing to do with search not working on sites. I have a different ISP and my speed is much, much slower than yours.
It is a function of FF ESR not working on certain sites on Windows 7 computers. That's why I installed a chromium based browser a few years earlier.

We wanted to subscribe to our local newspaper. It would not work on FF. It does work using Brave or Chrome. My husband uses Chrome on a chromebook to read the paper.
