access denied to blogspot pages and picassa online albums

Since the evening of March 3/10, blogspot has been affected and since March 5/10, the picassa albums have been affected.

Internet users across western Canada have been denied access to their own blogs, as well as to any pages with the word "blogger" or "blogspot" in the url. They are only able to access the pages by going through a proxy server. As of yesterday, the same demographic is now unable to access Picassa online albums as well.

In discussions on google help forums, it has been determined that one major Canadian ISP is involved, and it is impacting smaller ISP's whose traffic is routed through that one large ISP.

Customers have been told by ISP techs that Google is blocking certain IP addresses. Google has said they aren't blocking anyone. Obviously, however, some sort of technical difficulty is blocking access to these pages.

Oh, you did move this. I just logged on to mention that I wasn't sure where to post this. I chose the software forum because I thought maybe people who are having trouble accessing those sites might look to that forum, thinking this was an issue with their own browser settings or something.

Anyway, I'm glad you didn't delete the post.

 

Google maps now also not working.

 

I am happy to report that for the past 4 to 5 hours, google services appear to have been fully restored to western Canadian customers.

No apology or explanation has been offered by any of the parties involved and we have no idea what happened or why, but customers are very happy and relieved to have their services back.
