Hi - I have a problem and am hoping someone can help me.

I have a home office network. When "Viewing Workgroup Computers", all four machines show up, however, if I try to open the comp named "PRES" I get a message that access is denied - no access permissions.

I have checked settings on PRES and cannot find anything obvious. (I probablly should mention that PRES has NOT been upgraded to Service pack 2, its still on service pack 1 - I had so much trouble upgrading the other machines that I really just don't want to upgrade this one if I don't have to).

Do you have any thoughts or suggestions on why I can't read PRES from other machines?

    Thanks for your help.

forgot to mention - I have already tried disabling all firewalls on all comps to see if thats causing the problem. File and print sharing is enabled everywhere I can find to enable it. I'm not sure what else you may need to know. Thanks again

I sure hope someone can help me figure this out. I just figured out something else - I can access PRES by Start, Run, \\PRES\c, but I cannot access it through network places or workgroup computers. Still tells me I don't have access permissions. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

I'm going to guess that you are using Windows XP. I'm also going to guess that you didn't setup any security accounts. You might want to check out what security is on your shares that you created.

    I would try two things.

    1) Make sure that your share permissions is set to "Everyone" with full control. Also make sure that your NTFS permissions are set the same way. Then see if you can connect to the share, or

    2) You should create user accounts on all of you comptures that have the same name and the same password. Then you will want to map to that drive you are sharing and put in the credientls of the computer you are connecting to.

    One of those should work.

Thank you so much for your reply!!! Yes I do have windows xp and no I have not set security accounts (I'm not sure what a security account is).

I see an immediate problem. I am right clicking a folder (I've tried several) and there is NO Security tab. There is only a Share tab where I can check to Share this folder on the network and another check to allow network users to change my files. I can't find anyplace to set "everyone" to full control or to set NTSF permissions.

I'm not sure about the mapping because we already have a Z: drive that all computers are mapped to which is used for our business software.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
