I have been having a problem on my desktop. Every 30 minutes or so access to websites drops. Other connections, games etc remain. Restarting the DNS service in services.msc fixes the problem, but only for another 30 minutes.

I am looking for a permanent solution to this, as restarting the dns is tedious.

I am running XP home with SP2. The computer is attacted to the router along with 4 other computers (one mac and 3 PCs) none of these have the same problem.

10 hours on google has yielded no information. I am hoping someone here can offer a solution :)

sorry for double post but I cant find the edit button :D

another symptom on this machine. If it is connected to the router it sometimes seems to completely kill the internet access on the other computers. unplugging the ethernet cable gives immediate fix.

This does not happen every 30 minutes like the DNS problem but just a few times a day.

There is clearly something wrong here and im completely lost. Searching internet for solutions is nearly impossible as the search criteria i can provide is completely vague.

edit ran out :D i see why i couldnt see it now.

TCP/IP settings are to find IP address and DNS server automatically

    In Network Settings i have:

Wireless Network Connection 2: Not connected (wireless disabled at router - everything is wired)
Local Area Connection: Connected (Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection)
Local Area Connection 4: Disabled (Microsoft Loopback Adapter - I am unable to delete this connection. Could it be this that is causing the problem?)
