Accessing Folders in Windows 7

Hi,
I'm new to 7 and don't understand why I can't access folders such as "Documents and Settings". I've also had problems installing software such as Microsoft Mapoint and others. Window Office did just fine though. I think this a new security feature and I want to turn it off. I'm a hands-on user and don't like Microsoft thinking for me.

How do I kill this computer policeman?

 

what precisely is the issue with documents and settings? i think its been replaced as a matter of fact, you can do those tasks through folder options and by selecting the view properties in folders. (i can't believe i remeber documents and settings!)I take it you upgraded from xp or earlier? You might want to take the walk through of new windows features, I think its called the welcome center? Check out help and support as well and there are some useful tidbits posted on technet. As far as map point, I'm unsure (as I don't know what that is). You may find that you need to update immediately in order to install the fixes for compatability issues and fixes like dot net 1.1 have known issues. In that case, right click your program and go to compatabilty tab under properties. Select a version that you know the software runs well under and 7 will virtualize that OS version. I'm going to look into map point for curiosity, not sure how much you like microsoft software but have you seen worldwide telescope? pretty nice.

for ease of use you'll want to right click your start menu bar, click properties and go to customize under the start menu tab which will allow you to make features and folders more accessible.
