Accessing hotmail

I didn't know quite where to put this as it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else.

I have had a hotmail account for years under the same handle and password. A few days ago, I found myself unable to access the account. All I got was a window that stated this:
My wife cannot access her acount either.

I have contacted msn to see what can be done and they told me to flush the cookies, temp pages, and history. Didn't work.

I can access other msn accounts, such as groups.msn using my hotmail sign-in. Only hotmail remains inaccessible.

    But here's the rub ...

The only computer on Earth that I cannot access the account from is my home computer. I can access the account from any other computer; but this gets even stranger.

I am able to get to the hotmail sign-in page and that is where one may also create a new account. I was able to create a new account from my computer but I cannot access it from that computer. I can access it from other computers but not my own.

Does anyone have any idea of why this is happening? Missing files, registry entries, etc.

To see the error page I am getting, there is a screenshot of it at my secure webdrive here:

I have set it for 20 views for 15 days. After that it will be inaccessible unless I re-up it.

Try the steps below and see if it helps.

    1. Within Internet Explorer, click the "Tools" menu and choose "Internet Options."

    2. Click the tab labeled "Privacy."

    3. Click the button labeled "Advanced."

    4. Check the option labeled "Override automatic cookie handling."

To enable cookies: (which is what you want to do).

Set "First-party Cookies" (and "Third-party Cookies, if you wish) to "Accept."

    5. Click "OK" to save changes and close the dialog box.

    Matacumbie,

Tried that and then ran ccleaner to kill all history, temporary Internet files, cookies, recently typed URLs, and index.dat files.

I also went into the tools> internet options> privacy> sites to always allow cookies and entered hotmail.com as always allowed.

I still get the same error window.

    What anti-virus/firewall do you have?

I use Avira AntiVIR and keep it up to date with the auto update function. I use the XP popup blocker and firewall as well.

Any kind of popup or ad blocker can cause this. I would look at any 3rd party software you have installed that blocks spam or ads and disable them.

There is nothing installed that wasn't installed when it was still working and accesible. I have XP firewall, XP blocker, Pest Patrol, and Avira. That's it. I did the Spybot immunize function but I undid that and it still didn't work.

A few days ago, I went into start> run> msconfig and disabled everything in the startup tab but the things that were necessary for the operation of the machine to no avail.

The part that is so strange is that I was actually able to create a new hotmail account from this machine but am only able to access that account from any other machine but this one.

The only thing left is to do a non-destructive recovery ... one more damned time.

Welllllllll ... the problem is fixed.

It seems that there is this little icon at the bottom of the IE screen that is called the "privacy report" which, when you click on it, tells you what the cookie settings are for the site you are visiting. Somehow, the cookie settings for the login page for hotmail were blocked even though I had specifically set the cookies to "always allow" in the cookie override section of the privacy settings. How this happened I do not know but I had set the thing to accept all cookies from all sources and it still didn't open hotmail.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

    Sincerely,

    J
