Acer Aspire 3610 CPU Upgrade

I have an Acer Aspire 3610 with the Celeron M CPU. I have heard some say you can upgrade it to a Pentium M. I have taken laptops apart all the way to the mobo, so technique is not an issue. I just don't know what CPU would be compatible. Also, will I need to do any chipset software updating or any other drivers? Is it even enough of a performance upgrade to be worth doing this?

and then you can look for compatible cpu for that socket
and then you can crossreferense with your chipset what is supports

so in the lucky case you have PPGA478 socket
there is t1700 procesor
dual core
but since your chipset supports 400fsb
and the t1700 has a bus ratio 11 that will take him to 1100hz spead
not the 1.83 when it uses 666 fsb
also your current cpu is 21 watt cpu
the new one is 35watt
but if you work it lower and undervolt it a bit you can hit the 21 watt envelope of the old cpu

now what is to be gained
1.3 single core to 1.1 dual core plus intel 64 support

well if you would like to experiment a bit you can try it
in desktop it would not be that much problem but in laptops the bios is so resticted so you choose

if you want a safe solution
then there is the 390 model of the celeron which is 300hz better in the same power envelope
but i would not bother with upgrading to that
