acer aspire 5610 will not recognize dvd drive

My aspire running vista HP no longer recognizes the dvd drive. it isn'\t shown at all, the device manager shows the driver to be corrupt or missing(code 39). I have tried to update the driver, it says I have the latest driver available, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled , no help

 

An optical drive shouldn't require any drivers to use it, they should just work as soon as they are connected. Are the jumpers set correctly on the drive? Is the drive connected properly to the IDE and molex power connector?

 

I had the same problem and found there is a registry fix for this problem. MS has a page on this problem http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060.Or you can search for a download called CdGone.zip. It is a reg file that will take care of this problem. It worked like a charm for me.

 

acer 5100 BIOS wont recognize HD or DVD Drive. I searched for hours. someone posted that they couldn't see their HD or DVD in BIOS and it wouldn't boot. They said to press firmly with your thumbs about 2 inches on each side of the touch pad as its starting up. I tried it , and it works now. I hope this helps someone else with the same problem.
