Alright, I feel like a real bozo here. I have an Acer Aspire AM1640-E1510B which was downgraded from Vista to XP Home SP3 x86 about a year ago. I had a bit of a tough time finding all the drivers, as the Acer site only provided Vista drivers, but I managed to get them all. Tonight I was trying to use a USB 2.0 4 port hub and couldn't find a driver for it (it was supposed to be plug and play but wasn't) so in an attempt to get it to work I uninstalled all my USB drivers. Now I can't get them reinstalled, and none of my USB oprt work. I've tried to let Windows do it and it won't work, I've also reinstalled the entire chipset driver package. Still nothing. I can't for the life of me remember where I found them before either. Here's the device id:

    pci\ven_10de&dev_056a&subsys_01371025&rev_a1\3&267A616A&0&21

Any help I could get would be appreciated folks.

According to the vendor and device id you have a MCP73 [nForce 630i] USB 2.0 Controller (EHCI) but according to Acer you have a 7050/620i chipset which is not listed on Nvidia's site. Acer only lists drivers

for Vista and Windows 7. Nvidia does have a 7100/620i driver which includes a 7050/630i. Not sure if it will work for you though. It may cause more problems than what you now have. The Nvidia drive I linked

to is the same as referenced here. It states that is will work for a 7050/620i but the decision is yours.

If you do decide to install this driver, I would recommend that you do an image backup with software like Todo Backup or Macrium Free. Just be sure that once you create a recover CD, it will recognize all of your drives.

THe MCP73 drivers were the ones originally installed, which worked fine until this blunder. This is why I can't understand why they didn't resolve the issue when I reinstalled them.

I am wondering if you will be able to reinstall using the Add Hardware Wizard.

Tried that too.... no dice. I'm in the process of running system restore right now, hopefully that will get me squared away again.
