   I have a Acer Travelmate 5742 with 8 GB of RAM. Now and again I get a blue screen and memory diagnostics reports a problem with the memory. It works fine using only one of the boards in either slot - both boards have been tried this way. Is it a set up problem?

   Run a memory check on one stick at a time.

   If you get as little as one error, mark that stick as suspect.

   no errors - tried tests on each individual board
   
   looks like I will have to settle for 4GB and bin the spare board
