Arlo Guthrie, cool. That song was a Thanksgiving tradition for me, for years.

For nearly 25 years I made my living playing music in bars and clubs.
Alice's Restaurant was a staple song in my repetoire to be played and sung (talked) every Thanksgiving.
During the rest of the year I would play the instrumental version of AR at the end of each set while I talked (usually to introduce myself, the bartender etc.)
Although it's been over 10 years since I played in a bar, I can still play it without even thinking.
    Thanks for the memory

Yes I wrote the song and played/sang it.
It was recorded for the demo CD I distributed to clubs.

How awesome, do you still play? I'm envious of anyone with musical talent.

I've retired from the club/bar scene.
(Over 20 years of having to play "American Pie" for drunks every night gets old :) )
I now play once a week during Sunday morning services at my church, but other than that, no I don't play anymore.
I posted this song because I was curious if it was too dated to be of interest.

I can relate, after a 23 year relationship went I spent a couple years in the bars, got old.
How nice you have a place to still play.
No it is not too old. There are people here (including myself) who love tunes from the 30's 40's.
Your sound is very nice, endless. :)

Thats very nice Joel, did you write that? I'm not familiar with religious songs, was raised Catholic,
all there was was wine, genuflecting and latin sermon :-D
Oh, and is that you on guitar?

No, that one I didn't write.
Its one of a large number of what are called "Praise Songs" that have become very popular in churches (including the Catholic Church).
We start each service with two of these "Praise Songs" to get the congregation in the mood for worship.
Yes, that's me playing the guitar.
The woman to my right is Elizabeth, a delightful "special needs" member of our congregation. Not much of a voice, but she has the greatest enthusiasm of anyone I've ever sang with.
The third member of our praise team, as we call ouirselves, is Beverly - my pastor's wife.

I'm about ready to go on home now (I'm at the church right now, getting everything ready for tomorrow's service) so I'll be off line for a while.
    Nice talking to you.
