I've looked at the previous posts concerning this problem but none seem to help. I admit I'm not tech savvy, whatsoever, in fact I may be one of the most technologically inept 20-years old guys in existence, but I followed their instructions the best I could and still have issues.

Recently, when I turned my pc on, the wireless network connection statue was "Acquiring Network Address" and I could not access the internet. I disabled it and then hooked it up to the modem directly via ethernet cable, but even that said "Acquiring Network Address". I've tried both connections separately and at the same time to no avail. I know it's not the wireless network or the modem, because my mom's laptop is working just fine, connected to the same wireless router, therefore it must be a problem with my computer. I've tried the suggestions to run cmd netsh int ip reset log.txt, but that didn't working. I tried resetting the modem, pulling the power on it for five mins, then pressing the little reset button. Didn't work. I tried setting my own IP address to one given on another post:
    IP: 192.168.1.253
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Also didn't work, still showed "Acquiring Network Address." Turned it back to automatic, still nothing. I'd just do a system restore it to a previous checkpoint, but in my foolishness, have never set up a checkpoint. I'm at my wits end and near the point of bashing my head against my desk. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated, thank you.

Well, man, you have to think before do things.

Many people recommend a lot of things about a problem, the reality is when you face a problem you have to play a lot of cards, when you became an expert you will need less cards.

    I hope you'll understand.

Now, you will have to set-up back all to the basic configuration, if you tiped any IP delete it and set up all automatic.

Look, if your mom have Automatic and works... i guess that's not the problem.

I guess too you had internet so we could think about a malware, virus or bad config of your adapter...

    You could try this if you want in this order;

    1- Microsoft Malware Removal Tool

2- Set all automatic as you had before, TCP/IP config etc...

    3- TCP/IP Fix from Microsoft

check that i hope it works, if doesn't come back and tell us results.

Thanks a lot, the Microsoft Malware Removal Tool did the trick. I thought my current Anti-Malware software would have covered me on that front, but looks like I was wrong. I cannot thank you enough, you have saved my computer and possibly my mind.

Nice, if you saw the name of the threat post it.

    Cheers.

Possible that the LAN card is loose inside or damaged.
Also try turning everything off then turning each thing on one at a time, modem, router then computer.
