Acronis True Image 8.0 question?

Awhile back I download a free copy of True Image 8.0 (older version) from Acronis. I used it a few times and to the best of my recollection, it was full featured, not just a limited function "teaser" copy.

Recently, I tried to use the program to restore a previously created image file. Now, when I boot up with the TI recovery CD and the program is opened, any mouse activity (movement or clicking) will cause the computer to re-boot. I can navigate around and select things with the keyboard but not sufficiently that I’m able to restore the image.

I have tried this on two different computers and both exhibit the same symptom. I’ve spent two days trying restore an image file with no success. At this point I now believe my copy of TI 8.0 is limited function.

Could anyone shed some light on this for me?

    Thanks

    Hi

If you got Acronis TI 8.0 via this offer ( now expired ) then it was fully version http://www.acronis.co.uk/mag/pcpro/ati8pe

    Which Windows version you using?

Has the Recovery CD got scratches?

What would the reason be that your trying to recover a backup image? only reason I ask is that it may hold a clue as to why you cannot recover, although if you tried the CD on two different PCs and same issue is exhibited then my best guess is that the Recovery CD is damaged, scrathed or corrupted, if you can create a new one ( using the original downloaded installer files ) on a different PC, if the one needing recovery is not usable.

Halo - Thanks for your input on this matter.

I'm beginning to think the problem may be a bad hard drive. I had moved the target hard drive between two different computers. Both subsequently exhibited the reboot problem with mouse activity. I will need to a little more testing to confirm my hunch.

I did try my recovery CD in two more computers (without the questionable hard drive involved). One was on a Win 98 machine and the other was Win XP. Acronis TI worked fine in both of those units.

This is a busy week for me so I won't be able to do any follow up for a few days.

Thanks again for taking time to assist me.
