After activating Windows XP Home about 4 years ago when I bought my computer it has been running well.

Two days ago, out of the blue I received a message requiring me to activate Windows again. The message stated that a major change of hardware had occurred and therefore activation was required.

The problem is that no such change has happened and my computer hardware or software has not changed at all.

After this message first appeared I phoned Microsoft and re-activated it thinking this would be the easiest way to overcome the problem.

Now though, every time I start the computer the activate message pops up and I can't seem to get rid of it.

Would anyone have a solution to overcome this strange behaviour?

    Thanks in advance.

The first thing I'd do; if I was in your predicament, would be to try contacting whoever or whatever company manufacturer sold the computer unit and Windows XP software to you and ask them what to do. If you bought this computer and software from a computer manufacturer (and if you kept the receipt) you should have the receipt handy before you call.

Interesting... What did Microsoft have to say about this situation and what suggestions and/or changes did the person who answered the phone suggest?

Also do you still have the Microsoft Windows XP installation CD and is the Microsoft Product key also called the Microsoft Product Identifier still attached the software box or on the side of your computer your computer?

This is what it looks like on the back of Windows XP software box:

This is what it looks like on the computer unit:

Related Link: Microsoft Windows Product Activation privacy statement. That webpage also includes the national and international Customer Service Centers telephone numbers related to activation problems.

    Good Luck!
