Active buttons missing from menu's and screens

I'm having trouble trying to re-install mcafee security suite. When I bring up the security suite, the window opens but its empty and all of the active buttons are missing. I have removed it completely and now need to put it back on but don't have the 'install' button to select (see attachment). This has happened a couple of times before and I have managed to fix it by re-installing Java and running the windows script 5.7 for windows XP. I have now re-installed Java but when I try to run the windows script I am getting a message that the service pack I have is more recent than the update I am trying to apply (recently downloaded SP3). My OS is XP home edition.

Any ideas?????

 

Turns out this was down to a bug in the IE 8beta I had recently downloaded. I got the answer through Mcafee support.
