hi - I'm trying to get a friend's kid's computer back in operation. On boot up, I get an active desktop recovery screen. When I click on restore active desktop I get an internet explorer script error. I tried booting in safe mode to use add/remove programs but when I click on that nothing happens. Task manager is also disabled. I can't get an internet connection to download the normal xp cleaning tools. Can you guide me thru what to do? Thanks - Cal

Your best bet is to download the tools to another PC and copy to a USB flashdrive or CD...etc and then use it to copy to the problem PC. Obviously you will not be able to perform software updates so you will need to skip that part of each installation. After running the scans if you still have no internet connection, you will have to copy the logs in the inverse direction (from problem PC to good PC) to get them to us.

Some of your problems may not be malware related.
