After re-boot & back on the desktop...I get a small window that says " Your current security settings prohibit running Active X controls on this page. As a result you not view the pg correctly.

Also, due to the nature of virus/worm threat, I bumped up my security levels in Internet Explorer under tools, security. Now as a result, any folder I try to open has a resticted zone on it and it prompts me with " are you sure you want to open this document on this site?"
I've not been able to default any of these security setting back or do a registry restore or a registry fix to remove this restriction. Your best ideas would be greatly appreciated, as always.;)

    My O/S is Windows 98 2nd Edition.
    224 mb Ram
13 gig drive. Here's hoping you have a solution that does not involve re-install of Windows. Thankyou

    Active X

Yes...I moved the sliders on each site except 'Restricted Site' it was already at the default of High. Then, since I keep getting the strange Active X msg...I went back into security & reset them all to default. Can't find that magic path to get that msg to NOT show. I've even downloaded the newer version of IE.

OK lets try a repair first before getting into this.
    go to Start /Settings/Control Panel
    Click on Add/Remove
Scroll down until you come to "Microsoft Internet Explorer 6SP1 and Internet Tools"
    Click on this to Hi-lite
then just below click on add/remove
    chk repair internet explorer
chk yes and after repairing click ok to reboot

    Active X

This will endevour to be quite a challenge. Removed...the programs folder still shows IE files, a bunch, still in it's folder. If I removed it fm the root directory...it will take some necessary registered files along with it & programs will no longer work. Also, I don't see any option to repair IE? Where do I specifically look for it?

    Active X Problem GONE!

Well..your experience of knowing what to do is overwelming! Both problems i.e., the strange msg regarding active X controls have vanished and so has the red restricted site on all folders in "My Docs". On occasion, I have removed & re-installed various problem areas when corruption has occurred but this time I couldn't see the trees for the forest with being hit by the Sobig virus, the Welchia worm, and some other virus all in the last 3 days. Thank god, Norton blocked them all but w/ the worm, I had to remove it w/ the tool. All this & trying to get my printer to file share w/ my new Dell. Still can't get it to print on the remote, and trying to learn the new Win XP Pro. Whew! Hope your days are going better than mine. Much thanks!
I'll do a scanreg backup so I'll keep a good reference of this change.:D I hope it dosen't return.

Hate to bother ya but on your previous post you said you had quote" My O/S is Windows 98 2nd Edition"
Your last post quote "and trying to learn the new Win XP Pro. "
    What OS do you have?

    Active X Gone!

Yes...that's correct. I have 2 computers. The big problem was with the Win 98 2nd edition O/S. I'm in the process of setting up my new Dell Dimension XPS and networking the two together.:)
