Hope someone can help with this . From time to time I get this box that says ( click to run active x on this webpage). When I click the ok on the box, I then get a bigger box that says ( Internet Exployer has encounted a problem and needs to close . If you were working on something this information might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report. send error report or don't send)... So whenever I get this active x box which is quite often I have know choice but to close out and then come back in. Hope someone has a cure for this problem.
I have a Pentium D with 2.80 G.H.z of ram running on Windows XP. If anyone would like to e-mail me, I am, dfhunter@frontiernet.net or post here.
Thanks to who ever can help.

    Enable active X
Enabling Active X for Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0
Click Tools and select Internet Options on the Internet Explorer menu bar.
Click the Security Tab and select the Internet Zone.
Click Internet to display the settings for the Internet Zone.
Click the radio button to select Custom (for expert users).
Click the Settings button to open the Security Settings window.
Scroll to the Active X controls and plug-ins and verify that the options are set to Enable or Prompt.
Scroll to the Scripting Section and verify that Active Scripting is set to Enable or Prompt.
Note: Clicking a checked box removes the checkmark and disables the feature.
If you see checkmarks in the Enable or Prompt boxes, do not click on the checked boxes.
Click OK to close the Security Settings window.
Click OK to close the Internet Options window.

Alternatively, if the above fails, you can also try and enable movies to be played in your explorer.
In Microsoft's Internet Explorer, this options is available under:
    Tools
    Internet Options
    Advanced
    Multimedia
then place a tick in the "Play movies in Internet Explorer" field.

Is this how you are setup in explorer?

Thank you, My settings look good. The only ones that aren't checked Enable or Prompt are 1, Download unsigned Active X controls and 2. Initalize and script Active X controls not marked as safe.
    Should these be enabled?

thanks I will leave them as is. Could the pop up blocker have something to do with this problem?

    Could be.
Try disabling the pop-up blocker and then going to the website.
Let us know if it helped.
    :)

Could you post the link to the site where you have this problem so I can go there and see what happens?

This happens where ever Active X is used. My complain about it when they are using the website My Space. I had it pop up on me yesterday while looking at new trucks on a Ford site.

Tim, thanks I downloaded that patch and nothing happened. I first I didn't think I was able to clicl on other links. My Microsoft flag in the upper right hand corner wouldn't wave. The second time I logged off and then logged back on everything seems to be working ok. I think I will just leave things the way they are for now. thanks for the information.

If in the future you still have an issue, you can always try Dial-A-Fix:

    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4899

    Run: dial-a-fix.exe
check the box [x] "ActiveX controls/codecs"
    Click the GO button.

Only do this, if you are still having issues. :)
