    hello everyone!

i think i'm having trouble with one of my active x controls, or possibly javascript. i am trying to not have to pay a big amount of $$ to have a specialist come look at my computer. :\

certain features on my windows xp do not work, as well as aol/internet explorer. i believe that it is the same problem affecting all of them. for example, if i try to click on a java link in internet explorer/aol, nothing happens. and the java scripting doesn't show up on the webpage in ie/aol. they do show up perfectly normal in netscape.

on the actual windows xp itself, i will try to explain my problems as best i can. certain features of software (usually causing the whole program itself to be totally useless) do not work. here are a few specific instances/problems:

**1) my aol program recommended me to download the security center. i did, but couldn't use it. all that would open is the program window, but it would be blank. nothing would come up. so, had to erase the program of course. (aol computer check-up also doesn't work, just comes up as a blank screen)
**2) i downloaded pc tools anti-virus software. i bought it, but then it said my trial had run out. no problem, i could register it with the license #. only problem is, the program itself won't open, only a dialog box saying i need to activate my existing license, or purchase the program. i can't click the box that says "activate"...nothing happens when i click it.

is this making sense to any of you?? i regret that i sound like i have no idea what i'm talking about (which, really, i don't). i really need help though, please. if any of you can email me... < removed email addy to stop the spam harvesters > or you can message me through this. thank you very much. i can further describe my problem if you ask me to.

    Hi

To rule out any malwares being the cause of this issue as many malware infestations tend to disable security applications, please follow the below guide and attach the requested logs for the malware experts to review,

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

    TO HALO:
    ---
I had Viewpoint Media Player, and two versions of WildTangent. The first uninstallation of WildTangent told me to reboot afterwards (I didn't). The 2nd WT wouldn't let me uninstall it (nothing happened when I clicked Remove). Here are some screen shots of my Add/Remove progam list...what specifically do I need to get off?
Thanks in advance. You guys have been so much help. I want to send money to you. LOL

Now, about Symantec/Norton Anti Virus and McAfee. I cannot seem to get these programs totally OFF OF MY SYSTEM! When I installed avast! last night, it said that those were still on my system. I have tried to delete them sooo hard I just cannot seem to totally get them off. I even DL'ed a Symantec uninstaller to get everything Symantec off of my computer.

A question.......when an anti virus finds something, do you just Delete it (the infected file)? That would cause your cpu to run wrong, correct?

here are 3 of the trojans that came up when using avast last night. I tried clicking "Move to Chest" when they came up but an error message came. Then the computer froze LOL.
