my friends needs activex to play some game of his how would he get it?

I was under the impression that ActiveX would be installed along with a game.

You may need to use IE as I am not sure how or if FF and others handle ActiveX.

 

Yup. ActiveX is a scripting language that can be executed by Internet Explorer. (and browsers with engines based on IE) Shouldn't need anything else to use it. The code will come from the server you are connecting to.

The one pitfall is if IE's security settings are too tight, it may not be easily executed (as ActiveX is a bit of a security hole).
