    Hi There:)
Looked everywhere for info but could find none.

    I have a real pain in the *** situation.:confused
Every time I log on and try to get access to my internet etc., I get a very annoying notice from Internet Explorer in a blue box.
Beneath it shows a padlock and the message is as follows..
"Do you want to allow Active X controls and Plug Ins to run"
It gives me option boxes below to say Yes or No.
This damn thing can pop up anything from twice to ten times during an opening program.
I think I know how to disable it, but if I do, will it do any harm.
I am now getting very frustrated with the annoyance of it.
    Appreciate your advice.
    Thank you.
    Tom:cry:)

    Hi!

This really belongs in software, but it's ok, you're new:):wave:major

And nothing bad will happen if you disable it. It will just make some plugins on some website not work. You can ignore it if you so wish.

Or, you could stop using Internet Explorer, and download Mozilla FireFox - a better web browser.

    Cheers!
    Zack

    Hi

What Windows version and IE version do you have?

But in the main that setting should be able to be removed by actually enabling it over disabling it by following this open Internet Explorer select Tools > Internet Options > Security > Local Intranet > Custom Level and Under the Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins select enable

Other browsers while good and ok, do also have their own pitfalls and security issues, safe surfing and keeping your Windows, Browser and security software upto date is best way to keep safe on the net.

Thanks a lot for your replies.
Sorry I was on the wrong place..:-o

My operating system is Windows XP and the Internet Explorer is 8.

I use AOL and IE to browse with and this annoying pop-up appears on both.
I have considered and was advised to use Mozilla Firefox and will now do so.
In the meantime I will go in and disable the Axtive X and watch what happens.
    Again, many Thanks all...:major

You can disable, but not all websites will work properly.

Right now you are set to "prompt". I feel it's safe to have them "enabled", assuming you have good security; anti-virus and firewall.

Not positive, but think it is the same for firefox.

I usually set the security to "medium" and haven't experienced problems with this. But then, I don't download anything I am not 99% sure of. I'd like to say 100%, but that doesn't exist. If you are at medium, this in itself will allow signed active x controls to run.

Firefox does not use ActiveX; that is one less place for malware to enter.
